Teacher training is an important topic and will be more and more one of the most important topics in the future. This is not only a challenge in China, but also worldwide for every country and every society. As part of the SGAVE program, we have redefined our teacher training program and set new standards for our teachers.
The first training of this program took place in the last two weeks in Wuxi, at one of our partner schools. A total of 25 teachers from various new SGAVE partner schools in China participated in the first part of the program. During these 10 days the main focus was on the implementation of teaching units based on the SGAVE curriculum. This curriculum forms the basis for the training of apprentices as automotive mechatronics technicians. The challenge for our teachers is to plan, develop and ultimately implement action-oriented teaching based on the information in the curriculum. This is the necessary core competence that we want to achieve in the first part of our teacher training.
Based on the principles of the German dual training system, we have worked with the teachers to develop teaching concepts in the sense of an action-oriented training and carried these out in the training workshop of the SGAVE partner school. In the sense of an action-oriented instruction, the teachers were able to create the lesson plans during the practical training and to carry out the training under the supervision of the trainers. Ultimately, this topic was also part of the final examination, which was conducted by two other examiners from the SGAVE partner school.
In addition to classroom training, the teachers also had online media at their disposal. With the new SGAVE internet platform, our participants can also use all documents and many other media and documents online. The examination was also conducted via the SGAVE internet platform. The examination always consists of three parts. In addition to the theoretical test, a practical examination is of course held. But what is particularly important to us is the implementation of the teaching methods in the new schools. A sustainability test is always carried out to check the implementation of the measures in the SGAVE partner school. Approximately 6 weeks after completion of the training, the participants hand in an elaborated lesson plan and video recordings from the courses on site.
We are convinced that the sustainable implementation of educational measures is one of the greatest challenges in teacher training and, with the sustainability test, we are giving the factor a significant weighting. You can’t change the world in ten days, but we have laid the foundations for a change that will hopefully soon bear fruit and improve education. Through the new training programme and the new possibilities of e-learning, we can develop training more systematically and sustainably.
