SGAVE review meeting of the new energy automotive syllabus successfully held

On May 21, 2021, the SGAVE review meeting of the new energy automotive syllabus was successfully held in Beijing Daimler Building. Present at the review meeting were Ms. Yu Dongbing, an official from the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of the Ministry of Education of China, Ms. Peng Xianjie, Director of the Talent Center/Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Institute of Artificial Intelligence of Tongji University, and Oskar, Director of the Training Institute of Daimler Greater China Investment Co., Ltd. Mr. Heer, Ms. Xu Zhiju, Director of the Sino-German Vocational Education Ability Center of Tongji University, and Mr. KJ Brix, Deputy Director. The evaluation experts were composed of representatives of enterprises and institutions, from Daimler, BYD, SAIC, Tongji University, Changchun Automobile Industry College and Nanyang Vocational and Technical College.

At this meeting, Ms. Yu Dongbing explained the background, development history of the SGAVE project and the numerous achievements of the partner colleges based on the project, and said that 2020 saw the project entered a new stage. The measures of vertical integration and multi-discipline horizontal transplantation were promoted and widely used. Ms. Peng Xianjie emphasized the importance of this review meeting: this meeting laid the foundation for the curriculum construction and teaching material development, and provided guarantee for the training of talents in this profession. Mr. Oskar Heer stated that the current domestic new energy industry is booming, and the demand for related talents is increasing. He affirmed that vocational colleges will cultivate high-complex new energy automotive talents with professional capabilities as an important direction for talent training in the automotive field in the future.

Afterwards, Mr. Qian Li from Zhongrui Education Group introduced the construction framework of the SGAVE new energy automotive curriculum system. The experts at the meeting made the overall framework and content of the curriculum syllabus from the perspectives of enterprises and colleges, including the content adjustment of the learning field and learning context, and topics such as reasonable allocation of class hours and put forward targeted opinions. The whole review meeting ended smoothly in a lively discussion atmosphere, and the review experts fully affirmed the syllabus. After this review meeting, the project team will do a good job in the final optimization of the syllabus, and successfully complete the development of the SGAVE new energy automotive syllabus.

SGAVE project team visited Zhejiang University of Science and Technology for discussion on the applied talent training mode of smart manufacturing undergraduate programs

On 28th April, 2021, the SGAVE project team of the Center of Competence for Sino-German Vocational Education (CoC) of Tongji University visited Zhejiang University of Science and Technology and discussed the applied talent training mode of smart manufacturing undergraduate programs in a seminar.

Zhejiang University of Science and Technology, located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, is an application-oriented undergraduate university with a history of more than 30 years of cooperation with Germany. It has successively implemented Sino-German government cooperation projects, and Zhejiang Province and Lower Saxony cooperation projects. It is a pilot institution of Sino-German cooperation in the training of high-level application-oriented talents approved by the Ministry of Education and the construction unit of “Sino-German Forum: the training of high-level application-oriented talents”. It has rich experience in the cultivation of application-oriented undergraduate talents through Sino-foreign cooperation.

Guided by Mr. Zhang Huahui, Deputy Director of International Office and Office for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs, and Mr. Chen Cheng, Project Manager of German-speaking Countries, the SGAVE project team first visited the Sino-German Cooperation Museum, learning about its history of Sino-German cooperation, and then visited the picturesque campus. Finally, the two sides held a seminar.

Zhang Huahui introduced the university and its “application-oriented” and “international” characteristics. Ms. Xu Zhiji, Director of CoC, and Mr. Klaus Juergen brix, Deputy Director of CoC, introduced the background and history of the SGAVE project. The two sides then continued to discuss about the applied talent training mode of smart manufacturing undergraduate programs from several aspects, including talent training qualification matrix, the specific implementation of the German “dual system”, the Sino-German cooperation mode and the specific talent training scheme, maintaining similar perspectives on such matters.

Both Xu Zhiji and Zhang Huahui showed their willingness for keeping close and long-time contact between the two sides, maintaining frequent communication about the development and implementation of the training mode, and aiming to promote the further development of Chinese vocational education and the Sino-German vocational education cooperation.

Deputy Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Education Inspected the SGAVE Program and the Sino-German Dual System Vocational Education

On April 15, 2021, Professor Chen Yi, Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office of Tongji University, accompanied Fang Jun, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Department of the Ministry of Education (MoE), Super Inspector, and Yin Wen, director of European Division, to visit Bosch Suzhou smart manufacturing factory. The entourage included Ms. Peng Xianjie, Deputy Secretary General of Shanghai Association for Artificial Intelligence / Director of Tongji University Talent Center, Ms. Xu Zhiji, Director of the Center of Competence (CoC) at Tongji University, and Mr. Klaus Juergen Werner brix, Deputy Director of CoC, President Li Chunming of Changchun Automobile Industry Institute, Dean Tian Fengshe of Shaanxi Polytechnic Institute, etc.

Li Xiufeng, General Manager of Bosch Automotive Service Technology Co., Ltd., introduced the training mechanism and characteristics of Bosch dual apprenticeship program to Fang Jun, and organized a visit to Bosch Suzhou training center and smart manufaturing factory. Deputy Director Fang Jun approved of Bosch’s dual system training mechanism and the technical level of smart manufacturing.

After the visit, Fang Jun presided over a meeting which was focused on how to further promote the cooperation between SGAVE and Bosch, how to build SGAVE-Bosch brand and practically develop the cooperation under the background of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) which was signed by the MoE and Robert Bosch GmbH in Germany aiming to continuously enhance the integration of industry and education, and to further improve vocational training in the dual system and to develop applied sciences in China.

The participants had an extensive and in-depth discussion on the direction, process, existing problems and difficulties of the current project, and put forward a lot of constructive opinions and suggestions. The meeting marked the official beginning of the horizontal transplantation of SGAVE project from a traditional automotive discipline to smart manufacturing one. The participants said that they would actively promote the smooth cooperation between the two sides in accordance with the instructions of Deputy Director Fang Jun, cultivate high-quality and high skilled talents in the field of smart manufacturing, and help the reform and development of China’s vocational education.

SGAVE NEV Curriculum Review Kick-off Meeting Successfully Held

On February 7, 2021, an online Review Kick-off Meeting of SGAVE New Energy Vehicles (NEV) Curriculum was successfully held by the Center of Competence (CoC) at Tongji University. The experts attending this meeting consisted of representatives from both business and education sectors, including Daimler, BYD, SAIC, NIO, Chiway Education Group, Tongji University, Changchun Automobile Industry Institute, and Wuxi South Ocean College etc.

With the continuous introduction of policies encouraging the promotion and application of new energy vehicles, China’s NEV industry has entered the ‘fast lane’. More and more automobile manufacturers are launching NEV models, but there is a huge gap in the reserves of personnel who master relevant new alternative technologies. Against this background, the SGAVE program, under the leadership and support of the Ministry of Education (MoE) of China, transplanted the traditional automotive electromechanical subject horizontally to the NEV one, and developed the SGAVE talent training program for the NEV subject, including but not limited to curriculum and related teaching materials.

At this meeting, Ms. Xu Zhiju, Director of CoC, delivered a speech introducing the background and history of the SGAVE program. Mr. KJ Brix, Deputy Director of CoC, briefly explained the curriculum development strategy which is practice and competence-oriented based on the German dual education system, the development structure including learning field, learning situation, and customer orders, and other related teaching materials and documents.

Dean Xia Lingwei, Deputy Director of Shanghai Road and Transportation Association (STTA) Training Base for High Skilled Talent and General Supervisor of Chiway Education Group, made a detailed analysis of the general idea regarding the SGAVE NEV curriculum development and planning.

Finally, the experts at this meeting held lively discussions from various perspectives, such as vocational education research, industry development and enterprise employment, putting forward preliminary and constructive suggestions on all aspects of the curriculum, such as the overall framework, learning fields, class hour allocation, knowledge extension, students’ professionalism, examinations and qualifications etc., which will lead a promising direction in developing new ideas. SGAVE Project Team Reports to Ministry of Education

On January 6, 2021, the SGAVE project team of the Center of Competence (CoC) at Tongji University reported to Deputy Director General Fang Jun and other leaders of the Ministry of Education (MoE) on the progress of the SGAVE project and the future plan for the further development.

Mr. Klaus-Juergen Brix, Deputy Director of CoC, elaborated the history and background of the SGAVE program and explained the features of the SGAVE program and the talent education system in terms of its internationalization, matching with the Chinese education strategy, the vertical connection from secondary vocational school over higher vocational school to applied science university, the horizontal transplantation of multiple occupations, the quality assurance system for certification as well as the standardization and digitalization.

Ms. Xu Zhiji, Director of CoC, reported the future plan regarding the promotion and radiation of the project in the new stage and the establishment of SGAVE school-enterprise alliance and pilot schools for smart manufacturing and new energy.

Deputy Director General Fang highly praised the SGAVE project, saying that the project had laid a good foundation for the deepening and expansion of Sino-German cooperation in vocational education.

Currently, the 14th Five-Year Plan has already started the modernization of Chinese vocational education, against which how to cultivate high-level vocational talents through Sino-foreign cooperation will be an important topic. Deputy Director Fang hoped to use the SGAVE project as a backbone to achieve some key objectives. The SGAVE project is expected to have a good effect on the modernization of Chinese vocational education and the manufacturing industry, on the cooperation between Germany and China, and on the sustainable development of German companies in the Chinese market.

Deputy Director Fang and the participants thoroughly discussed the future plan of the SGAVE project with the attendants, saying that the MoE will fully support the work of the SGAVE project from the policy aspect. He, however, raised higher requirements for the further development of the SGAVE project, expecting the CoC to further develop the “14th Five-Year Plan” of the SGAVE project while maintaining the existing high standard and quality, highlighting there should be a qualitative improvement in scale and influence, more schools can join the SGAVE system, and more high-quality international talents can be cultivated for China.
