SGAVE System
The SGAVE programme was an initiative of the Chinese Ministry of Education (MoE), the Center of Competence (CoC) of Tongji University as well as five German vehicle manufacturers aiming to improve Chinese vocational education on a sustainable basis. SGAVE System has been an integral part of the vocational education system in China supported by the MoE.
This programme is based on a comprehensive system consisting of a series of modules, including school selection, teacher verification, class organization, curriculum and syllabus design, teaching materials provision, workshop construction, three-year accompanying guidance, school-enterprise cooperation guidance and so on. The strict implementation of each module renders the overall development of schools, teachers, and students under this three-year education system.
Our curriculum
Based on the German curriculum, the SGAVE curriculum was developed by both Chinese and German experts. Currently it is not only used by SGAVE partner schools but also the Volkswagen Group. The curriculum provides a theoretical basis for the further development of teaching materials and is in perfect accord with the needs of student ability development.
The curriculum is intended to improve students’ technical and practical abilities. Assimilating the merits of the German curriculum, the SGAVE curriculum is divided into a variety of different learning fields covering all the typical working procedures. Within each field, the content is taught and learned based on the materials related to the job, and therefore students can better understand the practical requirements of different companies and would become more capable in the future job market.
Teacher training
In-service teacher training is one of the most important aspects of improving teaching quality of vocational schools. Education and training programmes are tightly linked to highly qualified teacher resources. The Chinese government has provided a large number of funds and policy support in this area. As a successful example of Sino German vocational education cooperation, the SGAVE programme provides systematic and high-quality teacher training and certification.
The SGAVE programme provides a wide range of training courses for teachers in addition to a compulsory certification course. All courses focus on the development of practical experience, action ability, as well as basic skills such as creativity, personal sense of responsibility and quality. Details of our teacher training courses are provided here.
After the completion of all courses and assessments regulated by the curriculum, a certificate named by the MoE, signed by the dean of Vocational Education College of Tongji University, and sealed by the Chinese Secretariat of SGAVE (Tongji University) would be provided.
Regional Centers
SGAVE Regional Centers are outstanding cooperative colleges of the SGAVE programme, including a group of experienced school leaders and teachers. At present, a number of SGAVE Regional Centers have been set up in different cities and regions of China with the purpose to integrate more vocational colleges into this programme, and to facilitate its implementation.
